The pool at CHERRYTREE CANINE HYDROTHERAPY CENTRE is heated to between 27 – 30 degrees centigrade which relaxes muscles and helps with the expansion of surface blood vessels. This combined with non weight bearing exercise reduces pressure on painful joints and muscles. Swimming in the hydrotherapy pool improves cardiovascular stamina, circulation and joint mobility. It reduces inflammation and reduces pain. Muscle mass is restored and increased.

Some of the conditions that benefit from hydrotherapy are:

  • Pre operative conditioning
  • Post operative rehabilitation
  • Osteoarthritis
  • OCD
  • Spondylosis
  • Hip Dysplasia
  • CDRM
  • Spinal injuries
  • Recovery from injuries such as fractures
  • Cruciate ligament injuries and post op recovery
  • Luxating patellas
  • Relaxation of muscle spasms
  • Obesity
  • Muscle atrophy
  • Paralysis
  • ‘Stroke’ patients
  • Mental well being

Of course a dog does not have to be ill to swim in a hydrotherapy pool. Many dogs swim for fitness, to build stamina or just for fun.
